High Plains Raceway Lapping Days Information

Spectators/Photographers

  • Spectators are welcome at Open Lapping Days; there is no charge to spectate.
  • Spectators are restricted to the paddock, along the entry road behind the track barriers, or other track property areas specifically designated and marked as being available to spectators.  Any areas marked “authorized personnel only” are NOT open to spectators.
  • No one under eighteen years of age is allowed into the hot pit area or the fenced-off service lane between the hot pit and paddock.
  • Pets are not allowed into the hot pit area or the fenced-off service lane between the hot pit and paddock.
  • Photographers are subject to the same restrictions as spectators.  Only HPR employees are allowed outside of the paddock on Open Lapping Days.

Concessions

  • Hours:
    • Friday, Saturday Sunday 7:00 am – 4:00 pm (later if dinner catering has been arranged by the club hosting the weekend event)
    • Monday 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
    • Thursday 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm
  • The concessions stand will be closed on all Winter Lapping Days, please plan accordingly.

Schedule

Summer Days (Approximately April 1 – October 31)

  • Summer Lapping Days are NOT subject to being cancelled due to a lack of signups.
    • Summer Lapping Days will not be canceled due to rain.  The track may be shut down for brief periods if it is raining hard enough to effect vision, otherwise we DO lap on a wet track.
    • Lapping days, particularly motorcycle days, on the fringes of the summer season (April and October) MAY be canceled due to expected snow or very low temps.  If a summer day is cancelled due to weather, the HPR hotline (303-769-4771) will be updated with specific information about that date no later than 7:00 am the day of the event.  If the HPR hotline does not specifically say that the date is canceled, it is on.
    • Gates will be open no later than 7:00 am.
    • Drivers/Riders Meeting will be at 7:40 am.  A second Drivers/Riders Meeting will be held at 12:40 pm for the afternoon session.
    • Track will be hot from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, with a lunch break from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm.
    • Sessions will be determined on an “as needed” basis.  We try to limit sessions as much as possible to insure the participants get the maximum amount of track time.  Most often we will simply do groups of “slow” and “fast” in 30 minute sessions, but will break groups down further if safety concerns dictate.

Thursday Nights (May – August)

  • Thursday nights are not subject to being canceled due to lack of signups.
    • Thursday nights will not be canceled due to rain.  The track may be shut down for brief periods if it is raining hard enough to effect vision, otherwise we DO lap on a wet track.
    • Gates will open no later than 4:00 pm
    • Drivers/Riders meeting will be at 4:40 pm
    • Track will be hot from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm
      • Vehicles without operational head lights, tail lights and brake lights will be required to exit the track shortly after sunset
      • The gates will remain open all night Thursday nights when there is Thursday night lapping

Winter (Approximately November 1 – March 31)

  • Winter Lapping Days will be identified as “Winter Pricing” on the HPR Calendar.
  • DURING WINTER HOURS CALL THE TRACK HOTLINE AT 303-769-4771 TO CHECK IF THE LAPPING DAY HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER OR LACK OF SIGNUPS.  Please use the hotline and do not contact track personnel to inquire about the status of a lapping day.
  • WINTER ONLY – If less than 10 people have registered via the online signup by 12:00 NOON the FRIDAY before the Lapping Day, the Lapping Day will be canceled due to lack of signups.  If the Lapping Day is canceled due to lack of signups everyone who registered will receive a 100% credit towards a future Lapping Day.  This credit will be visible when you get to the payment page in the MotorsportReg registration system.
  • The recorded message will be updated periodically during the week. A final determination with regards to signups for BOTH Saturday and Sunday lapping will be recorded just after 12:00 noon on the FRIDAY before.  A final determination with regards to weather will be made as the weather dictates, but no later than 8:00 am the day of.
  • Gates will open no later than 9:00 am.
  • Drivers/Riders Meeting will be at 9:40 am.
  • Track will be hot from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm with no lunch break.

Prices

  • All prices are PER DRIVER, not per vehicle.

Summer

  • For participants who register and pay in advance via online signup the cost is $160 for a full day and $100 for a half day.
  • For participants who do not register and pay in advance the cost is $170 for a full day and $110 for a half day, payable at the track via check or credit card only – no cash, please.
  • Half day is either from 8:00am until 12:00, or 1:00 until 5:00

Thursday Nights

  • For participants who register and pay in advance via online signup the cost is $100.
  • For participants who do not register and pay in advance the cost is $110, payable at the track via check or credit card only – no cash, please.
  • No half day option

Winter

  • For participants who register and pay in advance via online signup the cost is $110 for the day
  • For participants who do not register and pay in advance the cost is $120 for the day, payable at the track via check or credit card only – no cash, please.
  • No half day during winter hours

Qualifications

  • All participants with no previous track time during HPR Open Lapping Days are REQUIRED to attend the Drivers/Riders Meeting before they will be allowed on the track.  There are NO EXCEPTIONS.  The information meeting is held at least once at every Open Lapping Day.  Please see the “schedule” section at the top of this document to determine when the Information Meeting is held.
  • Drivers must be 18 years of age or older.  Exceptions MAY be made if a driver has a valid competition license and is entered in an upcoming HPR event sanctioned by the club for which the minor holds a competition license.  Please contact track management directly to discuss such exceptions.
  • Drivers 16-17 who do not hold a valid competition license are allowed, provided they are accompanied AT ALL TIMES on the track by an HPR approved instructor.
  • At the sole discretion of HPR management, ANY drivers/riders involved in contact between vehicles are subject to disciplinary action up to and including permanent expulsion from the facility.
  • At the sole discretion of HPR management, ANY drivers/riders who exhibit overly aggressive or otherwise unsafe behavior will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including permanent expulsion from the facility.

Technical Requirements

  • Anyone who enters the racing surface as a driver or passenger must wear a helmet.  Helmets must be designed for car or motorcycle use, no other standards are required to be met – it’s your head, it’s up to you to decide which helmet is best to protect it.  HPR does have a limited number of open face helmets for rent ($25) on days for cars only.  Helmet rentals can be reserved on our website when you sign up for the Open Lapping Day.  Because they are open face helmets, these rental helmets are not available to motorcycle riders.
  • While there will be no formal tech inspection required, HPR management reserves the right to inspect any vehicle and require correction of issues of concern.
  • All vehicles must be in good general operating condition with acceptable tire tread depth and brake lining thickness.
  • Vehicles must be free of fluid leaks and all body work and other accessories must be securely attached.  Battery must be securely tied down.

Cars

  • Open face helmets are acceptable.
  • No karts of any kind are allowed.
  • All loose items must be removed from the passenger compartment and trunk.
  • 3 point OEM seatbelts minimum required.
  • Convertibles MUST have occupant rollover protection installed immediately behind the driver’s seat.
    • Windshield only rollover protection is not sufficient.
    • “Bolt on” hardtop roofs are not sufficient.
    • OEM rollover protection is acceptable if installed immediately behind the driver’s seat.
    • OEM “pop up” rollover protection is acceptable only if installed immediately behind the driver’s seat.
    • Permanent aftermarket rollover protection is acceptable subject to HPR management approval.
    • Aftermarket “pop up” rollover protection is not acceptable under any circumstances.
    • Rollover protection, whether “pop-up” or permanent, installed behind rear passenger seats is not acceptable under any circumstances.
  • Passengers are allowed, subject to restriction at the discretion of track management.  Passengers must be at least 18 years of age.  Drivers who display multiple spins or other indications of driving “over their head” may lose their ability to have passengers in the vehicle.
  • Pickup trucks or other vehicles with higher GVW’s are not allowed.
  • Please insure that the front of your car has a readily accessible tow point.  If your car has a threaded tow hook in the tool kit please install it in the front bumper prior to entering the track.
  • While we obviously try to be as careful as possible, HPR is not responsible for any damage that may occur in the event that your vehicle has to be towed from the racing surface.

Motorcycles

  • Water cooled motorcycles must not use any type of glycol in the cooling system.  Water and “Water Wetter” is acceptable.
  • Motorcycles must have rear view mirrors either removed or covered with tape.  HPR recognized instructors are exempted from this requirement.
  • Full face helmets are required.  Hinged full face helmets are not allowed.
  • Motorcycle riders must wear full 1 piece or 2 piece leathers.  2 piece suits must zip all the way around at the waist.  Textile suits are not allowed.
  • Boots that cover the ankle and gloves that cover the wrist are required.
  • Passengers are NOT allowed on ANY motorcycle.

Cancelation Information

HPR Cancelations and Credits

  • If HPR cancels a Lapping Day for any reason prior to 12:00 noon, all participants will receive a 100% credit toward another regularly scheduled Lapping Day.
  • If HPR cancels a Lapping Day for any reason after 12:00 noon, all participants will receive a 50% credit toward another regularly scheduled Lapping Day.
  • Only credits will be issued for cancelations, no refunds will be given.  This credit will remain in the system until December 31 of the calendar year following the year the original payment was made (i.e., if the original payment is made in 2010 the credit will be good until December 31, 2011).  If the credit is not used by that date it will expire.
  • Lapping Day credits will be visible when you reach the payment page of the MotorsportReg.com registration system, you can redeem your credit the next time you register for an HPR event.
  • Summer Lapping Days will be held as scheduled regardless of the number of signups.
    • Summer Lapping Days will not be canceled due to rain.  The track may be shut down for brief periods if it is raining hard enough to effect vision, otherwise we DO lap on a wet track.

Participant Cancelations and Credits

  • All cancelations must be initiated through the registration website MotorsportReg.com.  Phone calls, voicemails or emails will not be honored.
    • To cancel your registration log into MotorsportReg.com and go to the “event dashboard” for that lapping day, there you will see an option to cancel registration.
  • Summer Cancelations
    • Participants who cancel before the registration website closes for that day (6:59 am for weekdays, 3:59 pm for Thursday nights) will receive a 100% credit towards another regularly scheduled lapping day.
  • Winter Cancelations
    • Participants who cancel any time before noon on the Friday prior to the lapping day will receive a 100% credit towards another regularly scheduled lapping day.
    • If there are enough signups for a winter day to be held as scheduled cancelations will not be accepted after noon of the Friday prior to the lapping day.
    • “No shows” will not receive any credit; cancelation must be done ahead of time.
    • Only credits will be issued for cancelations, no refunds will be given.  This credit will remain in the system until December 31 of the calendar year following the year the original payment was made (i.e., if the original payment is made in 2010 the credit will be good until December 31, 2011).  If the credit is not used by that date it will expire.

  • Excepting cancelation by HPR no refunds or credits will be given for mechanical or any other reason once the vehicle has entered the racetrack.
