460 Acres of Marvelous Rolling Terrain Features

High Plains Raceway will become one of the nation's great tracks and facilities. With its rolling terrain, it will be a memorable and challenging circuit. The facility is located on U.S. Highway 36, 17 miles east of Byers. This is only 60 miles (and less than one hour) east of metropolitan Denver with numerous accommodations within 20 miles of the track.

To reach the track, exit I-70 at Byers (exit #316) and then take Highway 36 due east for 17 miles.

As can be seen from the topo lines in the image above and as portrayed on the diagram of elevation changes shown below, the terrain is not flat! And that is the real "beauty" of the site. It has marvelous rolling terrain features creating several elevation changes of up to 70 feet.

The property for High Plains Raceway is BIG! The full rectangular site is 460 acres! (For a frame of reference, the Second Creek property was only 55 acres). The first phase of the project will only need to use about half of the acreage, the east end. The large rectangular area shown above the paddock is a future autocross/skid pad area which is not part of initial phase.

But, if you'd like to see a neat video simulation, Andy Labout and Paul Leonard, PCA and SCCA club racers with considerable computer skills, have adapted a racing video game to simulate the HPR track layout and elevation changes. His recorded virtual laps of HPR are posted for your viewing pleasure at http://www.youtube.com/HighPlainsDenver. Check 'em out.
